I recently bought a 1972 Vintage Martin Acoustic (D35) from Vintage & Rare in London’s Denmark Street. Its got a 3 piece back, Rosewood body & Ebony neck. It’s a lovely guitar, the minute I played it I knew it had to be mine! It sounded amazing, like an acoustic should. At least that’s what I thought. It wasn’t until I took it to LA Strings in Barnet for them to install my new LR Baggs pick up that I discovered something suprising.
The guys at LA Strings are real luthiers, they specialise in making instruments and repairing them and they know a lot about it. They spotted a few issues with the guitar that could be improved to enhance the sound, gluing the frets where they had come away slightly and lowering the bridge to improve the action. I wasnt sure that it really needed it, I couldn’t see how it could really sound better.
But I decided to have the work done and I’m very glad I did. I thought it sung when I bought it but now it really sings – it’s amazing. Every note along the neck is clear, the lower action means its easier to play up the neck, and the strings vibrate closer to the pickup giving a purer amplified sound. They done a great job and have brought the instrument back to life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
Thanks LA Strings !
