This little racoon is staying back from the water for good reason. A few feet away sits an 8 foot alligator, watching with one unmoving eye. The swamp waters of the Everglades are tinged brown from the red coloration of the red Mangrove tree roots, seen exposed here. There are 3 types of Mangrove (Red, Black and White) they all thrive in these tidal waters where salt water meets fresh.
